How to Choose The Perfect Watch Strap?

Having a nice watch has its benefits, but finding the correct watch strap for your lifestyle can be super tricky. There are many factors to consider including the price, material, length, lifestyle and width.  All of these factors can either make or break a watch, so it is essential to consider these properties before making your final decision. When buying a watch strap for yourself, you will want to ensure that you are matching your strap with your personality or lifestyle if you wish for it to turn heads, withstand your everyday use and feels quality.

If you don’t have a strap that resonates with your style and personality, then you will soon get tired of the newly purchased strap which will result in you having to spend more money on a new one. Buying a watch strap is a serious task, and mustn’t be taken lightly as this is something that will be on your wrist every day. In this article, we will go through how to choose the perfect watch strap.

Determine Your Budget

The first step when picking the perfect watch strap is to determine how much you can spend on the new strap. Having a budget to go off can instantly make your job a little bit easier, so this should be done before anything else. By setting out a budget, other factors will fall into place, such as the type of material you want, or the brand of the strap.  Watch straps come in a range of prices, so before you start looking, have a solid budget in place.

If you don’t, then you could risk walking into a shop and falling in love with a strap that is well out of your budget. Speaking to the store assistant may be able to help you if you are struggling to find a strap perfect for you. They want a sale, just as much as you need a strap, so work with them and you may be able to find a compromise or discount offer.

Know Your Style

The next step to finding your perfect watch strap is to understand the type of style you are. Do you have a luxury lifestyle? Patterned styles that show off your personality should be your thing. If you have a more simple lifestyle, then a timeless and classic watch strap is the better choice for you. Understanding your style is key when purchasing a watch strap as this can completely influence the way you feel and look at the watch strap.

Luckily, it’s you who is wearing the strap, so you should be able to find a piece that matches your style pretty well. If you are struggling with finding the correct watch strap, then keep reading to learn more.

Analyse Your Wardrobe

The next step to determine the type of watch strap you require is to analyse your wardrobe. Look at the colours in there. Your watch is going to be part of your wardrobe, so it is definitely worth looking for a strap that is going to go with your clothes. There is no point in having all suits in your wardrobe and then having a rubber watch strap, or alternatively, you don’t want a wardrobe full of athleisure and then have a leather watch strap. The point is that you should match your styles and clothes with your strap.  If you have a lot of colours in your wardrobe, then having a plain strap that is versatile enough to match a range of outfits will suffice.

Choose The Material

There are many types of materials that can be used for watch straps, but not all will suit your lifestyle or aesthetic. All of the materials have their own benefits and drawbacks, so it is important to understand that some straps may be more suitable than others.

Leather – Leather watch straps are one of the most popular choices. And for good reason! They’re smart, timeless and will always be in style. The issue with these straps is that there are many forms of leather, cheap leather will tear and expensive leather can’t be near water as it will damage the quality.

Nylon – Nylon watches such as the NATO watch strap have been used for military watch bands for many years. They are extremely comfortable to wear and many say they will never go back to a normal strap after a NATO strap. They are water-resistant and extremely durable. The great thing is they come in a range of colours and patterns to meet your style needs.

Stainless Steel – Stainless steel watch straps are another classic and come with most watches. For the quality, they are fairly inexpensive and will last you a long time. Due to the material, the bracelet is durable enough to withstand everyday use. The only issue is they get hot in heat, and can sometimes be uncomfortable and heavy if you are travelling.
Silicone – silicone watch straps are found on smartwatches and are often used by people who spend a lot of time exercising or people who have active lifestyles. They are completely waterproof, comfortable and durable which is exactly what you need for an active life. The drawback is they are not the most stylish of straps and can’t be worn with a range of outfits.
