Celebrities Who Can’t Help but Love Their Mummy-and-Me Fashion Moment
The mummy-and-me trend is slowly getting traction, and more and more celebrities are embracing matching styles.
Whether they’re walking in the park, enjoying a shopping spree together, or attending the red carpet, these celebrity mums and daughters are fashioning the latest style crazes and are a true inspiration for us! Here are some of our favourites.
Best red-carpet mummy-and-me style
We will never forget Beyonce and her daughter Ivy’s red-carpet appearance for the premiere of The Lion King in 2019. An Alexander McQueen tuxedo gown in sheer crystals worn by the Queen of Pop was matched with a similar outfit worn by her daughter.
The shoes and embellishments only emphasised the outfits’ radiance. Beyonce wore a statement necklace in white crystals and matching heeled sandals, while Ivy fashioned a crystal-embellished hair clip that helped recreate her stylish Sailor Moon-inspired hair-do.
The two icons are a true representation of glamour and splendour, and they wear it like queens!
But red-carpet twinning outfits aren’t the only speciality for Beyonce and her daughters. The signer has admitted that she loves matching with her daughters when on vacation, and they often go for colourful and floral prints woven into breezy fabrics that complement their vacation.
Twinning on Christmas
Kylie Jenner and her four-year-old daughter Stormi Webster are known for their love for matching mummy-and-me outfits. For Kylie’s 22nd birthday celebration, the two wore elegant mini rushed dresses with dramatic sleeves in sea blue. Throughout the years, we’ve seen them in spectacular outfits, from fancy dress butterfly costumes to festive red sparkling dresses. But this winter holiday, the two were the star of the Christmas tree.
At the annual Kardashian-Jenner Christmas Eve party on 24th December 2022, the spectacular duo appeared in jaw-dropping gowns designed by Mugler. Kylie wore a thigh-high split bodycon dress in champagne featuring a low-cut neckline with beaded black lace around the bust and the hem. Stormi was dressed in a similar shoulder strap dress in champagne with a beaded black lace and a full skirt.
On December 26th, Kylie posted the picture of the matching duo on her Instagram account to honour the holidays and her Instagram community. Since then, the photo has received over 10 million likes.
The next day, the star demonstrated her love for her mother, Kris Jenner, by posting a photo of the two wearing matching pyjamas, proving that the mummy-and-me trend has no age limit.
The best mini-me “pretty in pink”
Many mother-daughter celebrity duos have embraced the ‘pretty in pink’ trend. The Kardashians, for example, are notorious for their ‘mummy-and-me’ obsessions, and pink is often on their agenda. For her daughter, True’s fourth birthday, Khloé Kardashian matched them in pale pink Dior logo-printed outfits.
But the crown for the -pretty-in-pink like-mother-like-daughter trend goes to Serena Williams and her daughter, Olympia. They left fans in awe when they posted a series of photos on social media on April 4, 2022, dressed in patterned fuchsia pink Balmain dresses.
Williams paired her look with striking red sock women’s boots, while Olympia wore cute sandals. The caption of the photo carousel, which has received over 670,000 likes since being posted, reveals that the images were taken in Paris and the girls had a great time in style.
This is not the first time we’re seeing Serena and Olympia twinning. We’ve seen them sport leopard satin pyjamas for their leisure look, Nike swimming suits in pink, and even Cinderella yellow dress costumes. All of which are available on the tennis star’s Instagram account.
The best Royal outfit coordination
The royals are known for their stylish and sophisticated fashion sense, and often that involves wearing coordinated outfits.
The Duchess of Cambridge and her daughter Charlotte love wearing subtle matching outfits that exude regency.
For the evening carol service at Westminster Abbey on 15th December 2022, Catherine fashioned a custom Eponine coat-dress paired with a matching clutch bag. It was close in colour to Charlotte’s Trotter’s coat and even her husband’s tie complemented the ladies’ outfits.
Prior to that, the royal mother and daughter duo appeared many times in matching outfits, and they’re not the only one. Princess Diana, who was a true star icon, also loved coordinating her outfits with her two sons William and Harry.
The ‘mummy-and-me’ trend is taking a central part in our fashion guidebook. Just like celebrities are fashioning matching outfits with their daughters, so are more and more people embracing the trend on the streets.
The good news is that fashion houses are making ‘like mother, like daughter’ styling more accessible to everyone, with brands like Dune London introducing a ‘mini me’ shoes and accessories range. In 2023, we’re expecting to see more of the trend entering the street catwalk with new and innovative matching designs being fashioned.
